Yes, Latisse Seems to Help Regrow Over-Plucked Eyebrows

Latisse Regrow Over-Plucked Eyebrows Siti Med Spa

Dark, full eyebrows are a signal of youth and beauty. They frame and highlight the eyes and enhance facial expression. For individuals with eyebrows on the thinner side, eyebrow gels, eyeshadow, and brow powder can give the illusion of thicker brows, but what if there was a solution that could actually help you grow thicker, fuller eyebrows?

There is! Latisse. (Yes, the same one used for eyelash growth!)

What is Latisse?

Latisse is an FDA-approved eyelash growth serum designed to correct thin or inadequate eyelashes.  Latisse contains the active ingredient bimatoprost, which is also present in the glaucoma drug Lumigan.  When glaucoma patients began to report longer thicker eyelashes as a side effect of the medication, Latisse was born.  Latisse received FDA approval in 2008. When applied nightly and used consistently, it prolongs the growth phase of the eyelash hair cycle, resulting in longer, thicker lashes.

Latisse for eyebrow growth

Latisse has proven safe and effective as an eyelash growth serum, so it makes sense for use on eyebrows too. Although Latisse has not yet received FDA-approval for eyebrow growth, it is showing promise as an off-label treatment for thin or over-plucked eyebrows.

One study revealed that bimatoprost ophthalmic solution 0.03% (Latisse) may actually work to help regrow eyebrows as well. After 7 months of using the solution once a day, the majority of the study participants found that Latisse had increased the fullness and darkness of their eyebrows. Other studies have shown similar promise.

A note about off-label Latisse use:

When the FDA approves a medication, it means that after a thorough evaluation of the benefits and risks based on strong scientific data, it is considered a safe and effective treatment for a specific condition, and with specific parameters around its use. Once the drug has received FDA-approval, however, it is generally accepted for healthcare providers to use their judgement in using it in other ways that have not yet been approved. Unapproved use of an approved drug is referred to as “off-label” use. It’s important to note that unapproved is not the same thing as “disapproved.” It just means that the drug or medication has not been through the rigorous and specific process of approval for that particular use.

Many healthcare and cosmetic professionals recommend Latisse for clients looking for a solution to thin, over-plucked eyebrows.

How to use Latisse for thicker, fuller eyebrows

Latisse works for eyebrows in the same way that it does for eyelashes. With daily use, the active ingredient begins to prolong the growth phase of the eyebrow hairs, resulting in fuller, darker brows.  Here’s how to use it:

  • Clean and dry your face and perform your nighttime skincare routine first.

  • Apply a single drop of Latisse on the provided applicator.

  • Use the applicator to brush or comb the solution carefully over your brow area only.

  • Alternate between brows, brushing one and then the other, ensuring you apply the product evenly between them.

  • Avoid getting the product anywhere but the brow area. Hair will grow where the solution is applied, so you’ll want to be careful.

  • Avoid tweezing or waxing for 12 weeks to allow all hairs to complete their growth cycle.

It does take some time for Latisse to take effect. Some people begin to notice a change in the first couple of months, but for others, it may take as long as 7 months before they see full results. Consistency is key. Latisse is only effective when it’s used daily.
