How to Get Rid of Sunspots on Your Face

How to Get Rid of Sunspots on Your Face

As the summer weather heats up, most of us want to minimize our makeup routines. But for many people with facial sunspots and other pigmentation issues, stepping out of the house without makeup to cover embarrassing blemishes is a no-go. At Siti Med Spa, we offer a range of highly effective products and services for minimizing the appearance of hyperpigmentation or even eliminating those spots altogether.  Before you invest in another bottle of heavy coverage foundation makeup, take a look below at some of our recommendations for getting rid of sunspots on your face.

Prevention

You probably already know this, but when it comes to preventing sunspots, sunscreen is your best friend. Maintaining a consistent routine with sunscreen that contains SPF 30 or higher will go a long way toward preventing new sunspots from developing. And if you already have sunspots, sunscreen will help keep them from getting larger and darker. Remember, though, once a day isn’t enough. It’s important to reapply your sunscreen every two hours, and more frequently if you’re sweating or swimming.

High-quality skincare products

There are a number of skincare products on the market that claim to correct dark spots, but of those we’ve tried, Skinmedica’s Lytera 2.0 Pigment Correcting Serum is our favorite by far. It contains a number of powerful ingredients, including tranexamic acid, phenylethyl resorcinol, and phytic acid, that work together to support melanin balance and correct the appearance of hyperpigmentation. Lytera 2.0 works on all skin types, and because it’s retinol-free and hydroquinone-free, its gentle formula is especially ideal for skin that’s prone to irritation. When used twice daily under sunscreen, this luxurious serum evens out skin tone, lessens the appearance of dark patches, and increases skin’s radiance and clarity.

Chemical peel treatments

Chemical peels use acid to treat a range of skin concerns including hyperpigmentation. During the peel process, the chemicals in the peel dissolve the outer layer of dead skin cells to help even out skin tone and improve texture. You can buy over the counter peels for at-home use, but professional chemical peel treatments from a reputable medical spa will get you quicker and better results—and minimize the risk of complications.

Not all chemical peels are the same. When choosing a chemical peel treatment for your sunspots, acne scars or any other skin concern, it’s crucial to use a formula that works for your skin type and condition. And remember, chemical peels require healing time. The deeper the peel, the more time you’ll want to plan in advance for any special events. Chemical peel treatments can do more than just correct your dark spots—they can also treat fine lines and wrinkles, acne scars, and other facial blemishes, resulting in a smooth, radiant complexion, and youthful-looking skin.

Limelight IPL Photofacial

The Limelight IPL Photofacial is a non-invasive light therapy that effectively corrects age spots, skin freckles, rosacea and other skin discoloration issues. IPL stands for intense pulsed light. The photofacial light differs from a laser in that it uses a broad spectrum light to reach multiple layers of skin. The light selectively heats the abnormal red and brown pigmentation spots, breaking down the excess melanin into smaller particles that are then flushed out by your immune system. The heat also stimulates your body’s natural healing process, promoting the growth of new collagen.

What’s even better is that the IPL photofacial treatment requires no downtime, so you can resume your daily activities immediately. Some patients see results within a week of their first session, though most need three to six photorejuvenation treatments, spaced 30 days apart, to get optimal results. In addition to reversing sun damage, the Limelight IPL Photofacial boosts collagen and elastin production, improving tone and texture, resulting in healthy, glowing skin.
