What Should You NOT Do After BOTOX®?

Even with the emergence of so many wonderful new cosmetic formulas and services over the years, BOTOX® remains among the best of the best in non-surgical anti-aging products. BOTOX® cosmetic treatments relax the facial muscles that create deep lines and wrinkles, providing smoother, younger-looking skin. In order to make the most of your BOTOX® treatment and minimize your side effects, however, you’ll want to pay special attention to the following list of BOTOX® DON’Ts.

  1. Don’t massage the treatment area

Rubbing or massaging the treatment area can irritate the injection sites, worsen redness, and cause additional bruising. Avoid scheduling any additional facial treatments for two weeks.

  1. Don’t wear makeup

Putting on makeup involves touching your face, which is something to avoid for at least 24 hours after treatment so you don’t irritate the injection sites or interrupt the healing process.

  1. Don’t sleep on your face

Lying on your face the first night after your treatment can cause the BOTOX® to migrate to the wrong areas, resulting in an unattractive or unnatural appearance. Use pillows or sleep in a recliner chair to stay elevated.

  1. Don’t do strenuous activities

Strenuous exercise and other activities that increase your heart rate and blood pressure can lead to painful bruising and swelling, and may even alter your BOTOX® results. Walking is good exercise for the days following your BOTOX® treatment.

  1. Don’t drink alcohol

Alcohol thins the blood. The resulting additional blood flow can increase bleeding, bruising, and swelling. Avoid drinking alcohol for at least 24 hours after treatment.

  1. Don’t overdo it on caffeine

Drinking caffeine can cause dehydration and increase your heart rate, resulting in a quicker breakdown of the BOTOX® formula and altering your results.

  1. Don’t expose yourself to sun or heat

It’s best to avoid sun, hot saunas, heat lamps, and tanning beds. Heat can inflame your skin, causing redness and swelling, and sweat can increase your risk of infection and injection-site irritation. Wear a hat and use sunscreen to protect your skin when you do go outside.

These minor inconveniences pale in comparison to the joy and satisfaction of loving the way you look in selfies. And BOTOX® treatments can give you just that.
