The Best Wrinkle Fillers for All Types of Facial Wrinkles

Best Wrinkle Fillers for Thin and Deep Facial Lines

As a premier medical spa in San Diego, we get a lot of calls from people who are desperate for Botox to address their wrinkles.  But when they arrive for their consultation, many turn out to be better candidates for wrinkle fillers than for Botox and are often surprised to find that there is a significant difference the two.

Botox is an excellent solution for dynamic wrinkles such as crow’s feet and frown lines because it helps to relax the muscles that cause them.  But it only works on wrinkles that are caused by facial movement. Unfortunately, as we age, our skin loses volume and hydration, leading to both thin and deep wrinkles that Botox cannot help. Dermal fillers work to plump the up the skin, smoothing out wrinkles and restoring a youthful appearance to the face.

How do wrinkle fillers work?

Many of today’s most effective and most popular wrinkle fillers contain hyaluronic acid, a natural substance found in the body that provides our skin with hydration, elasticity, and volume. As we age, our bodies produce less hyaluronic acid, resulting in facial wrinkles, facial folds, volume loss, and sagging skin.  The best wrinkle fillers correct these signs of aging by temporarily replenishing our supply of hyaluronic acid, which draws moisture and hydration to the area. This results in the restoration of facial volume and the diminished appearance of wrinkles. (Bonus: Over time, hyaluronic acid injections also lead to an increase in collagen production and a decrease in pore size).

The molecular size and weight of the hyaluronic acid in dermal fillers determine what kind of wrinkles and facial folds each one works best on.  Some are formulated to smooth out thinner wrinkles and superficial lines, while others are designed for correcting deeper wrinkles and folds. Take a look below at some of the hyaluronic acid fillers we offer at Siti Med Spa—and what kind of wrinkles they treat best.

Which fillers work best for thinner wrinkles?

Juvederm Ultra XC and Juvederm Volbella are both designed for injection into the lips and into the area around the mouth. Both formulas add fullness and volume to the lips, but if you’re looking mainly to smooth out thin, vertical lip lines rather than adding significant volume, Juvederm Volbella may be the best option, as its lip-enhancing effects are more subtle.

Restylane and Restylane Silk also address lip volume and symmetry, though the smaller particles in the Restylane Silk formula make it a particularly great option for reducing the appearance of perioral wrinkles. In addition to its lip-volumizing effects, the original Restylane formula also works beautifully to fill in and reduce the appearance of wrinkles on other parts of the face.

Which fillers work best for deeper wrinkles?

Juvederm Vollure combines high- and low-molecular weight hyaluronic acid to correct deeper wrinkles and folds as well as moderate to severe lines on the face. It has proven most effective on smoothing marionette lines, correcting nasolabial folds, and reducing the appearance of fine lines by adding subtle volume, especially to the lower half of the face.

Juvederm Voluma is designed for injection deep into the dermis. The thicker formula remains in place right over the top of facial bones and provides a lifting and volumizing effect, reducing the appearance of deeper wrinkles caused by sagging in the cheek area.

Restylane Lyft restores the shape and contours of the face by adding volume to the cheeks and softening the “parenthesis” around the mouth.  It also helps to correct facial sagging and to erase the vertical lines that pull the corners of the mouth downward.
