Stretch Mark Treatment in San Diego at Siti Med Spa

When you live in San Diego, trying on swimsuits isn’t something you do once a year before a vacation. It’s a regular event, complete with unflattering department store lighting that highlights all of your insecurities - including your stretch marks. Wouldn’t it be nice to enjoy the experience of buying a new bikini and wearing it to the beach without feeling self-conscious about the lines that crease your thighs, buttocks, abdomen, or breasts? Now, you can. At Siti Med Spa in San Diego, we offer treatments that drastically minimize the appearance of stretch marks to help you feel confident in your own skin.

What are stretch marks?

The skin has an amazing ability to stretch and contract as our bodies grow. It adapts through all of life’s changes, including puberty, weight gain or loss, and pregnancy. But when the skin stretches too far too quickly, collagen fibers can break, creating bands of parallel lines on the skin. Sometimes, underlying blood vessels show through and make the stretch marks appear purple or blue. Over time, as the blood vessels heal, the purplish marks fade into white or gray lines we know as stretch marks. While they aren’t painful, stretch marks can be embarrassing and even disfiguring in severe cases.

What causes stretch marks?

It’s unclear why some people get stretch marks and others don’t. When they do appear, it’s because the skin stretches too far too fast. Stretch marks are common after pregnancy when the skin on the abdomen has stretched to accommodate a developing baby. They often occur following rapid weight gain or weight loss. Stretch marks can show up as early as high school if a teen experiences a particularly big growth spurt. Medical conditions like Cushing’s syndrome, Marfan’s syndrome, and other adrenal disorders can lead to stretch marks due to an increase in cortisone in the body. While most common in women, men can get stretch marks, too.

Men typically develop stretch marks due to:

  • Weight Gain

  • Weight Loss

  • Puberty

  • Rapid Muscle Development

How to get rid of stretch marks

If you’re among the 80 percent of men and women who have stretch marks, you know they’re not easy to get rid of. There are creams on the market that promise to fade the appearance of stretch marks, but most are ineffective. At Siti Med Spa, we offer highly laser treatments to minimize the appearance of stretch marks on the thighs, arms, breasts, and more.

Stretch Mark Treatment Options Siti Med Spa Offers

  • Laser Genesis with a Chemical Peel

Laser Genesis is a type of laser stretch mark reduction that uses short pulses of light to target the deep layers of the skin. The light triggers the body’s natural healing response, flushing away old, damaged cells and stimulating new collagen production. As new collagen develops over time, it smooths the texture and appearance of stretch marks, making them less visible.

Laser Genesis is particularly effective when used with a chemical peel. While laser stretch mark reduction works on the deep layers of the skin to rebuild support structures, a chemical peel works on the surface layers of the skin to exfoliate dead skin cells and reveal the fresh, smooth skin underneath.

  • JuvaShape

JuvaShape harnesses the power of radiofrequency technology to deliver heat to the deep layers of the skin. This controlled “damage” causes collagen fibers to contract and rapidly multiply, smoothing and contouring lines, wrinkles, and dimples. This makes JuvaShape a particularly effective treatment for minimizing the appearance of stretch marks and cellulite. JuvaShape body treatments can be performed on the abdomen, arms, thighs, and knees.

  • Total FX

Total FX is a combination of Active FX and Deep FX, which are laser treatments commonly used to target sun damage and the signs of aging. However, this fractionated laser treatment is also effective at minimizing the appearance of stretch marks by decreasing redness, fading white or gray stretch marks, and correcting the tone and texture of the skin. Total FX treats only a fraction of the skin, leaving bands of skin untouched to aid in the healing process and reduce recovery time. The entire procedure lasts about 45 minutes, though the exact time will depend on the areas being treated. Because Total FX stimulates collagen production, patients see gradual improvement for up to six months after treatment.

  • Microneedling

Microneedling is a non-surgical treatment used to address common skin issues like pigmentation, fine lines, cellulite, acne scars, and yes - stretch marks. During treatment, a device containing ultra-fine needles is gently pressed against the skin to create small areas of trauma. This turns on the body’s natural healing response, encouraging the natural production of collagen and elastin. Over time, healthy collagen and elastin help fill in indented lines and reduce the pigmentation issues common with stretch marks.
